A man who faces jail had his sentencing delayed until the New Year so he can spend Christmas with his daughter.

Lee Barnes, 32, appeared at Hull Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced for his breach of a non-molestation order.

But his defence laywer Claire Holmes asked for an adjournment, to minimise the impact of his sentence on his family over the festive period.

Recorder Richard Woolfall agreed, telling Barnes, of Wickenby Garth, Hull, he was doing it for the sake of his daughter – not for him.

He said: ‘I suggest you prepare your daughter for a period of time away.

‘These are serious offences, and I am doing this for the benefit of your daughter, not you.’

Further details of Barnes’ crimes were not revealed, but the court heard he had breached a non-molestation order.

They are a type of injunction imposed to protect a person from a family member, or someone you are living with or have been in a relationship with.

They are commonly imposed to protect the victims of domestic violence.

Barnes thanked the judge for his compassion at allowing to spend Christmas with his daughter.

He will return to Hull Crown Court on January 12 to be sentenced for the offence, when he has been told to expect a prison stretch.
