Hundreds of people flee for their lives amid fears a 30-storey apartment building in Sydney’s Olympic Park will COLLAPSE

Hundreds of residents have fled for their lives after cracking sounds coming from a high rise sparked fears the apartment building could collapse. 

Police said an emergency services operation is underway after concerns were raised for the ‘structural integrity’ of the 30-storey Opal Tower apartment building at Sydney Olympic Park.

At about 2.45pm on Monday concerns were raised for the building which contains 392 apartments and is located on Brushbox Street, police said in a statement.

Occupants said they heard cracking noises throughout the morning.

‘A number of residents left the building of their accord,’ NSW Police said. 

‘Fire & Rescue NSW and Police are assisting people to leave the building at this time.’
