The RSPCA is on the hunt for the person who shot a small bird with an arrow, forcing the group to put the animal down.

The bird, a plover, was found in the Gold Coast suburb of Jacob Wells by Pelican & Seabird Rescue with an arrow penetrating its body, Ten Daily reported.

They tried to save the animal after taking it to the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital but were forced to put it down due to the severity of the injury.

RSPCA Chief Inspector Daniel Young said they were investigating the cruel incident and have asked for assistance from the community.

‘To deliberately harm an animal in this way is unacceptable,’ he said.

‘The plover sustained critical injures which sadly resulted in our veterinarian having to euthanise it on humane grounds.

‘Unfortunately, we are no closer to identifying the culprit, so we are urging the public to come forward if they have any information that may assist with the investigation.’

If you have information about this incident please contact the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline on 1300 264 625.
