MSNBC’s Joy Reid has said that Republicans are so willing to follow Donald Trump that they would be let him sell the US to Russia.

The outlandish remark came during an interview on Thursday night during which Reid questioned Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

‘If Donald Trump announced tomorrow that he was selling the United States to Vladimir Putin personally and that we will now be owned by the Kremlin, every single Republican would say, “Yes, sir,” and vote for it,’ Reid claimed.

‘We already have seen their behavior,’ she continued, referring to Trump’s recent flurry of executive orders. ‘We’ve stopped – I think most of us have – stopped expecting any different behavior.’

Trump, meanwhile, earlier in the day said he had talked to the Russian president, and called the conversation ‘lengthy and highly productive’ when it came to ending the conflict in Ukraine.

He added how it was ‘unlikely’ the latter would get back any territory seized by the Kremlin over the past three years.

The remarks came during discussions about how Senate Republicans had easily pushed their budget resolution out of committee the day before – the first step toward Trump’s domestic policy agenda.

Meanwhile, Democrats and much of the mainstream media continue to react to Trump’s controversial ‘peace’ talks with the Russian president, with some claiming the former is attempting to strongarm Ukraine into a resolution.

Helping bring an end to the war would be historic and one of his Trump’s first big wins in office,

Trump told reporters earlier in day how he ‘trusts’ Putin when it comes to the leaders desire to reach peace with Ukraine, sparking pushback from global leader

The comments came a day after Trump and Putin spoke for 90 minutes by phone, and as European allies accused him of giving away concessions in advance of talks to end the war – even if it was at Ukraine’s expense.

The president said: ‘I believe President Putin when I spoke to him yesterday. I know him very well. I think he wants peace. I think he would tell me if he didn’t.

‘I trust him on this subject. I think he’d like to see something happen.’

Trump also said he would ‘love’ to have Russia back in the G7 – the group of economic powerhouses that it was ejected from after annexing Crimea from Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was ‘not very pleasant’ that Trump had called Putin without speaking to him.

Zelensky – after nearly three years of conflict – said he would rather speak to both leaders together.

The Ukrainian leader – who is set to meet US Vice President JD Vance in Munich on Friday – has said he wants to hammer out a ‘plan to stop Putin’ with the US.
