Soren High, who uses they/them pronouns, from Portland, Oregon, has taken to TikTok with a series of videos to chronicle the unorthodox process.

The 35-year-old revealed that when their 16-year-old cat Loki died they paid around $3,200 to have the remains freeze dried as well as getting the organs cremated.

Soren began by setting out how the ‘traumatizing’ events unfolded, telling the camera: ‘I witnessed my cat being killed by a dog I was fostering in front of my house late at night.

‘I was walk the dog, the dog saw a bunny, the dog got away from my leash, the bunny crossed my cat, my cat bolted, dog went after the cat, dog attacked my cat.

‘This has been one of the hardest losses of my life and I’ve never experienced anything like this before and since her death was such a sudden loss – even though she was 16 years old – I was not prepared for this.

‘I’m going to document the process of sending my cat off for preservation.’

The TikTok user said that they were getting Loki ready to send off to Ohio where the body and heart would be freeze dried before having the organs cremated.

They said: ‘The rest of her remains will be cremated except for her heart.’

The text they sent to the Animal Family Pet Preservation stated how they wanted Loki, who was getting shipped on UPS next day air, to be in a ‘laying down pose with eyes open.’

Soren said that the entire process cost around $3,200 in total and added: ‘Having the ability to touch her again is really special, being able to see her in the house again, just knowing that she’s here, I personally believe it will really help me with my grief.’

Remembering Lokicat the only way she deserved ❤️ having a pet preserved is a personal decision and one that many may never understand. When i got Lokicat as a kitten, I knew this was how i was going to deal with ber death. I knew i never wanted her to be gone, and that I wanted to always have her with me. Her death was sudden, even though she was 16. We never expected this would happen and especially by a dog we had been fostering. This situation broke us into a billion pieces. After finding a home for the dog, we had Loki preserved through @Animal Family Pet with help through donations and raising funds with memorial fabrics and pieces. Her preservation cost nearly $3k and it was worth every Penny. . . #petmemorial #petpreservation #taxidermy #petsoftiktok #freezedriedpets #fypシ #foryou #grief #loss #memorial

Soren added in an interview with Insider: ‘I knew I wanted to have [Loki] preserved the day I took her home. It was an immediate knowledge that we were going to be together forever.’

The proud pet owner said they had been keeping the cat’s dead body in their freezer for a month before shipping it off for preservation.

Nearly 12 weeks later, Soren filmed themselves as the freeze dried cat made its return.

They first took Loki’s freeze dried heart out of the box before bursting into tears.

Soren regained their composure before picking the rest of Loki up, clutching it to their stomach and gently stroking their deceased pet.

The social media user then revealed how Loki was now positioned on their bedside table, adding: ‘I am very, very, very happy to see her again, I’m very happy to wake up next to her every morning and I can pet her.’

Soren said that the cat will maintain its current look ‘forever’ providing the finished product is not in direct sunlight, not kept in humidity above 80 per cent and no heat temperatures above 100 degrees.

They also ordered a custom made urn in which to keep the cremated organs.
