On the latest episode of ‘The Trial: The Kim Kardashian Heist’, Mail crime reporters Nick Fagge and Caroline Cheetham dissect the testimonies of three men who are alleged to have orchestrated the 2016 robbery of Kim Kardashian in her Paris hotel room.

The alleged mastermind of the heist, Aomar Aït Khedache (nicknamed ‘Old Omar’), was questioned on Monday alongside Didier Dubreucq, one of the men accused of entering Kardashian’s hotel room that night, and Florian Heroui, who owns the Paris bar where the heist was reportedly planned.

Old Omar has partially admitted to his role in the $10 million heist, whereas Dubreucq and Heroui deny involvement.

Crime reporter Fagge, who was observing proceedings, described how Heroui ‘made the court laugh’ when asked by Judge David de Pas what he was doing as the robbery was taking place.

Probed whether Heroui was the elusive second man who entered Kardashian’s room with Old Omar, he replied: ‘I don’t even know who the Kardashians are – I only know Kim Basinger. There must have been some mistake – I have nothing to do with this robbery.’

Then, it was the turn of Old Omar to take the stand. The alleged mastermind of the robbery is 69 years old and suffers from a range of health ailments, claiming he is ‘95% deaf’.

Omar has already served time in prison for his involvement in the robbery. He sent a personal letter of apology to Ms Kardashian which brought the socialite to tears when it was read out in court last week.

Fagge described the accused and how the court accommodated his condition. ‘Old Omar is seriously ill,’ the court reporter said.

‘He has a cochlear implant in the left side of his head and that leads to his left here. He says he is 95% deaf and can’t speak.

‘He walks with a stick and says he has bladder problems. He leaves the court quite often to visit the loo and even went on a hunger strike in jail when he was refused incontinent pads.

‘The judge has been careful to put things in place to enable him to follow the trial and to give his evidence. That includes two stenographers, who make detailed notes of what’s happening in court.

‘The judge would ask him questions, then he would wait for Old Omar to scribble his answers in spidery handwriting in what looks like a secondary school exercise book.’

During testimony, Old Omar continued to deny he was the mastermind of the heist. He instead said another man, who he refused to name, presented the opportunity to him.

He claimed this man presented detailed plans to him, including layouts of the hotel building and pictures of Kardashian wearing the prized jewellery.

In court, this man is referred to as ‘Mr. X’, who Old Omar refuses to name through fear of reprisal.

With the conclusion of Old Omar’s testimony, the main thrust of the trial concluded. Reporter Fagge, an expert in French law, told the podcast the roadmap for what will happen next.

‘It will happen in three phases. First, is the interested parties. The lawyers representing the victims will put to the court what the impact of this crime has upon them.

‘This means that the lawyers representing Kim Kardashian will again explain how this robbery has affected her.

‘Then it will be the turn of state prosecutors to outline why they think the defendants are guilty and how long they think they should go to jail for – I expect her to ask for the maximum sentence for four of the defendants.

‘There will then be a chance for the lawyers representing the defendants again to put their point across as to why the accused were not involved.’
