I proposed – but our dog said ‘yes’ before my shocked girlfriend had a chance to

A thrilled dog stole the limelight in these engagement photographs after leaping up to ‘accept’ the ring from her owner before the giggling girlfriend had the chance to say ‘yes’.

Vicky Jones, from Plymouth, Devon, was stunned when her boyfriend Josh Stewart dropped to one knee and popped the question while walking their pet Breeze along a beach last month on May 28.

But before the bride-to-be had chance to reply, the delighted Dalmatian-cross leapt onto her back legs towards the ring as though to accept the proposal herself.

Not content with stealing the limelight during the proposal, the 11-year-old attention-loving dog also photobombed the 33-year-old couple’s engagement snaps.

Vicky says she was too absorbed in the moment to notice her rescue dog’s boisterous behaviour – but had a good laugh when she looked back at the photos later.

The catering company manager says that Breeze and fiancé Josh have a great relationship, which can be seen in the snaps taken on Toko Mouth Beach, Glenledi in New Zealand.

Vicky said: ‘The proposal was very unexpected. Apparently, he was planning it for a couple of months and everyone knew apart from me. When he asked the question I said yes, but obviously the dog said yes before me.

‘Apparently, dogs sense things before humans so [she was right]. I was in shock and I was like, “what’s going on?” So the dog led the way in that situation. I don’t know if she thought the ring was a stick or a treat, she’s very food orientated.

‘She jumped up as soon as he got down on one knee, she was so excited. I didn’t recognise that the dog was there because I was so in the moment.

‘But luckily it’s so funny to look back at the pictures and see her playing the fool like she usually does. We just laughed so hard because it’s something she’d always do. She’s always the centre of attention.

‘She has a good relationship with my fiancé. If I’m not at home, she snuggles up with him. She’s just such a funny dog. She has a permanent smile on her face. I’m very lucky to have her, she’s a great dog.’

Although the happy couple are yet to set a date for their wedding, Vicky claims that they are considering giving Breeze the role of ring bearer at the ceremony.

Vicky, who has been in a relationship with merchandiser Josh for more than three years, said: ‘I’d love her to be a ring bearer at the wedding, or [at least] just be involved in all the pictures.

‘As long as we have a treat at the end of the aisle, she’ll definitely come to us. She loves the attention more than anything.’
