I tried to trim my dog’s fur after our grooming appointment was cancelled – but I turned him into a ‘dollar store Baby Yoda’

One pet owner has revealed how she transformed her dog into a ‘dollar store baby Yoda’ after braving her own attempt at trimming the overgrown fluffy white coat.

Madison Harmon from Knoxville, Tennessee, was forced to buy a pair of clippers for her pup Annabelle after her grooming appointment was cancelled.

And after she tried her hand at styling her dog’s ivory tresses, it became apparent that her talents were perhaps more suited to work on the set of The Mandalorian.

The clip, which she shared on TikTok, shows Madison ‘taking matters into her own hands’ as she brandishes the trimmer and then pans over to a pile of discarded dog fur on the floor.

It then flashes to her less than impressed dog, as the caption above reads: ‘I’m so sorry Annabelle.’

The TikToker captured the hilarious results of her DIY puppy salon endeavours – which in the end saw her dog closely resemble fan-favourite ‘Baby Yoda’ Grogu from the Star Wars universe – during the pandemic in a social media clip.

It has raked up more than 46,600 views since being shared in 2020.

She set the footage to the app’s viral ‘I did a bad thing’ audio.

‘This is not my calling,’ Madison later remarked in the comments.

However some social media users were more fans of Annabelle’s new intergalactic look.

‘Aww she doesn’t look that bad,’ one reassured.

And it would seem that Madison hadn’t learned from her mistakes – as  four months later she posted yet another TikTok where she trimmed Annabelle’s fur – with similarly underwhelming results.

Madison’s clip has quickly amassed some 5,153 likes.

In 2020, when many countries entered their first lockdowns, reports showed people ‘panic buying of pets for company’ – as done by thousands of Britons, a leading animal charity had then warned.

Research by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home suggested nearly a third of new pet owners bought an animal ‘on impulse’ in or around lockdown.

Chief executive Claire Horton said: ‘The animal welfare implications resulting from this year of extreme challenge could be profound.’

The organization, which rehomes animals in the UK, in 2020 polled 2,000 dog and cat owners who acquired a new pet during the national lockdown.

It found 31 per cent had done so despite not having considered getting a dog or cat before.
