A 25-year-old man, believed to be British, has died in a climbing accident at a well-known beauty spot in Ibiza.

It is the second tragedy to hit the Spanish island today, after a British man plunged to his death from a seventh-floor apartment block this morning. 

Police have yet to confirm the nationality of the man who died in the climbing tragedy but the island’s media say he is understood to be British.

According to information from the 112 emergency service, he was climbing near the Pedrera of Cala d’Hort cove, in the municipality of Sant Josep, the area known as Atlantis.

‘Apparently, the young man was climbing along with his partner when the accident occurred. He fell from a great height, more than 25 metres, according to several sources,’ says Diario de Mallorca.

An off-duty nurse who in the area attended to the victim until the emergency services arrived. 

The Civil Guard asked for the police helicopter so that his body could be airlifted but this request was later cancelled as rescuers managed to get to him on foot using a safety line. Local police and firefighters with the Vertical Rescue Group also went to the scene.

The 112 service brought in a psychologist to care for the deceased’s relatives.

This morning, a 36-year-old man, also reported to be of British nationality, died after falling from the roof of a building in Sant Antoni, Ibiza.

The island’s media says the man plunged from the seventh floor into an inner courtyard.

An urgent call was made to the emergency services at 2am following the incident in calle Vara del Rey.

Two ambulances of 061, the Civil Guard and Local Police went to the scene and found the man lying on the floor.

Medics said there was nothing they could do to save the man’s life because of the severe injuries he had suffered in the fall.

At this stage, no details have been given about the circumstances or whether the Brit was on holiday or living in Ibiza.

The judicial police of the Civil Guard has taken charge of the investigation.
