Ice Cube and BIG3 basketball league sue Qatari investors for $1.2 billion after they fail to pay up

Rapper Ice Cube is suing several of his investment partners who were involved in his BIG3 basketball league.

According to TMZ the Good Cop Bad Cop recording artist and his business partner Jeff Kwatinetz have filed suit against several Qatari investors, including Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, who is the head of the Qatari Investment Authority.

In the suit, Ice Cube and Kwatinetz claim that the group of wealthy foreigners failed to live up to the investment agreement put in place for the BIG3 basketball league.

Allegedly the Qataris agreed to invest $5 million and only take on the role of passive investors.

Instead the group ‘quickly started to insinuate themselves into the affairs of BIG3 despite failing to live up to even their most basic obligation to fully fund their investment.’

A quote from the suit revealed how frustrated Cube and Kwatinetz were with their derelict partners.

‘These members and associates of the royal family made excuse after excuse for not paying, all of which is documented in text messages and emails, where the blame for their failure to fund the millions they owed the BIG3 ran the gamut from their ‘sinuses,’ ‘hiking,’ it being a ‘long day bro,’ and to bad press regarding Qatar associations with alleged funding of terrorism.’

It continued ‘also, like a simple debtor in hiding from a collection agency, these Defendants with their purported links to the Qatar royal family, would go into hiding and refused to return phone calls and ignore Plaintiffs.’

The suit also offered a bizarre specific example of the defendants’ avoiding their commitment.

Apparently Kwatinetz attempted to set up a meeting in December 17th with a one Ahmed Al-Rumaihi, but Al-Rumaihi responded with ‘a picture of his teeth being worked on, apparently to conjure sympathy.’

Ice Cube also claims that when Al-Rumaihi got too annoyed with the repeated attempts to meet, he ended up threatening Kwatinetz’s personal safety.

The Qatari reportedly said ‘You don’t know who I know in L.A. and what they’re capable of. You should think of your safety and the safety of you and your family.’

Cube and Kwatinetz are suing the group for Defamation, Defamation Per Se, Trade Libel and Intentional Interference with Contractual Relations.
