‘Idiot’ woman arrested after blowing SIX TIMES the limit

A Melbourne driver allegedly caught six times over the legal limit told police she was an idiot and it was lucky she didn’t kill someone.

The 48-year-old was stopped on Chapel Street at Blackburn about 8pm on Wednesday and allegedly returned a breath test reading of .313.

The reading was labelled as ‘insane’ by Victoria Police Acting Chief Commissioner Shane Patton on Thursday.

‘I don’t know how much alcohol you’d have to consume to get to that level but to think that you would get into a car that is so irresponsible,’ Mr Patton said on 3AW.

‘That’s an insane reading isn’t it really,’ he said.

The Burwood woman admitted she was an ‘idiot’, her license was immediately suspended for 12 months and her vehicle was impounded.

Earlier in the day, a man was killed in a crash on the NSW mid north coast.

A male pedestrian, struck by a car at Bonnyrigg a few days before Christmas, succumbed to his injuries on Boxing Day, a NSW Police spokesman told AAP.

On Tuesday night a 43-year-old man died when his car crashed into a parked semi-trailer truck in Emu Plains, in Sydney’s west.

The crashes mean 20 people have died on the state’s roads since December 15, which marked the start of Operation Safe Arrival, the state’s Christmas and New Year road safety campaign, compared to seven killed during the same period last year.
