There are 29 bungalows on the island, as well as the Royal Canoe Club’s clubhouse and gym, and a wooded area at one end of the island which is a haven for wildlife including bats, owls and various waterfowl.

The island, like many on the Thames, has changed over time. The name Trow, comes from a type of barge averaging 50-60 tonnes, and in 1910 a boat building firm was located on the island.

The property has 1,522 sq ft of accommodation with an open plan kitchen/dining/living room, utility room, four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

There is also a small studio in the garden with a bathroom that could make a perfect home office or extra guest accommodation.

Teddington is five minutes’ drive away, with Richmond and Kingston also a short journey away.

Daniel Hutchins from Savills said: ‘The opportunity to own and live on the islands of the River Thames don’t present themselves all too often, so to be able to bring Trowlock Island to the market is incredibly exciting.

‘Just one of 29 properties on the island, this beautifully renovated home offers fantastic river views and is complete with a separate studio – making this an ideal property for those looking to work from home with the utmost privacy.

‘With a large master bedroom, complete with en-suite, and three further bedrooms and family bathroom, we’d expect the property to attract a young family.

‘Particularly with a number of excellent local private and state schools in Teddington.

‘The property would also be ideal for empty nesters or those who are retired and seeking a slower pace of life.

‘In addition to this property’s aquatic appeal, is its private wrap around garden and terrace, complete with a hot tub and two boat moorings.

‘Accessed by an original chain link ferry, the island is located just five minutes from Teddington, which has a charming atmosphere with a lovely and sophisticated selection of boutiques and restaurants, as well as the acres of Bushy Park.’
