IKEA teams up with psychologist to uncover the 12 clutter horoscopes

With springtime just around the corner, now is the perfect time for a declutter and tidy up. 

And now experts have revealed why your star sign could hold the key to how you should best organise your home.

Psychologist Honey Langcaster-James has teamed up with Ikea to analyse how each sign of the zodiac has unique characteristics when it comes to handling the clutter.

And whether you’re a tenacious Taurus who likes to colour co-ordinate, or a label-loving Gemini, there are plenty of cosmic cures to keep the mess at bay.

Here FEMAIL reveals how you should be tidying up your home this spring…

AQUARIUS

January 21 to February 19

Aquarians are known for being quirky, original and creative. 

Those born under the sign of the water bearer may find themselves getting particularly excited about innovative, hidden or secretive storage solutions.

On the other hand, they may find themselves stashing clutter into spaces that others wouldn’t even think to look in, so there’s a risk of building up too much stuff to deal with over time.

PISCES 

February 20 – March 20 

Emotionally aware, the Pisces sign is often sympathetic to others. 

They are thought to go to great lengths to help ensure the happiness of those around them. 

They are likely to hold onto precious items and memorabilia for others in their life, so may well have learned ways to store things effectively over the years.

Clearing things out and letting go may be another matter altogether.

ARIES 

March 21 – April 20 

Aries are often considered to be highly motivated and determined. 

Those born under the sign of the Ram may find they have an uncomplicated and no-nonsense approach to decluttering and home organisation.

A couple of simple storage solutions for your general waste and recycling will appeal to Aries. 

However it’s better to avoid something with lots of different categories, which could just frustrate them with detail they deem unnecessary.

TAURUS 

April 21 – May 21

Those with the Taurus birth sign are often believed to be down-to-earth, tenacious and reliable characters. 

They are likely to be quite dedicated to order and organisation. Colour co-ordination will really please those born under the sign of the Bull, whether in their wardrobe or pantry.

If anything gets out of order, Taurus tend to feel off balance.

GEMINI 

May 22 – June 21

Generally believed to be playful, curious and gregarious, the key characteristics of the sign would likely see you organising your home in particularly fun and imaginative ways. 

Honey Langcaster-James advises that Geminis use a set of fun labels to help keep them mused while organising.

CANCER 

June 22 – July 22

Honey revealed: ‘Traits associated with this zodiac sign are nurturing, loyal and knowing. 

‘Your focus on other people’s needs would likely make you especially fond of personalised organisation methods such as a monogrammed towel or set of named hooks to keep things in order and help ensure everyone knows just whose is whose.

LEO 

July 23 – August 21 

The psychologist explained: ‘Leo’s are often thought to enjoy being the centre of attention and are considered quite image conscious.’

Leos may desire things to look tidy and organised, at least on the surface. 

However, those born under the sign of the lion may have a hidden ‘dumping’ cupboard that’s far from orderly kept well out of view. 

VIRGO

August 22 – September 23

Virgos are believed to be practical, sensible perfectionists.

‘These personality traits can often lead you to be meticulous and single-minded in your approach to clutter,’ explained Honey. 

‘But this can sometimes come across as ruthless if others have stronger emotional attachment to items.’

For Virgos, it’s a straightforward one-in, one-out policy that works best, and everything must have its place.

LIBRA

September 24 – October 23

Librans are thought to be the most charming and well-balanced of the zodiac. 

Craving balance and peace might lead to a desire for calm, structured, neutral coloured home organisation solutions.

Honey advised opting for consistent labelling and storage made out of natural materials.

She said they will help to reduce chaos and restore order to even the most overwhelming pantry, bringing relief to those with a Libra-like need for calm.

SCORPIO 

October 24 – November 22

The Scorpio sign is believed to be the most emotional and deep thinking, so if you embody these traits, you’re likely to overthink things from time to time. 

The psychologist explained: ‘This might lead to chaos in the home as you get overwhelmed by decisions about what to keep and what to discard.

‘The key is to simplify and streamline your life as much as you can. 

‘For Scorpios, less is more because it reduces the need for you to have to think about and consider everything.’

SAGITTARIUS

Nov 23 – Dec 22

‘This birth sign is often believed to be the most optimistic, spontaneous and fun,’ according to Honey. 

She said: ‘Thought to be lovers of freedom and frivolity, there’s a risk of rebellion if you try to keep things too structured or organised in the home.’

Large washing baskets and toy boxes suitable for throwing things in with a sense of spontaneous abandon are best for Sagittarius. 

Smaller or more detailed storage containers just won’t get used, as they’ll just seem fiddly and restrictive.

CAPRICORN 

December 23 – January 20

Often considered ambitious, determined and strong, the Capricorn personality may be just the one needed to bring a sense of order to a home that’s got out of hand. 

These personality traits keep them going when others turn back, so a big decluttering project or spring clean out with a dramatic end result is ideal for this character.
