I’m A Celebrity: Amir Khan completes second trial

He shocked his camp mates and viewers when he abandoned the first Bush Tucker Trial, leaving his co-stars without food.

However Amir Khan came back fighting on Tuesday night’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, as he successfully completed his second public-voted trial – and returned to Croc Creek with a meal ticket in hand.

The boxer, 30, effortlessly battled against an array of sea critters in the terrifying Flushed Out challenge, reasoning with steely determination: ‘I can’t let my team down again!’

After his failed attempt at the Bush Tucker Trial on Monday night, Amir was faced with the second trial of the show – having uttered the famous words and forfeiting the camp’s food when faced with a snake.

However, the former world champion appeared more determined to succeed on Tuesday, as the camp mates all rallied behind him.

He said: ‘There’s five people I need to feed, so there’s more pressure.

‘When you come back from losses you just come back stronger. I don’t want to upset any teammates. At the moment they’ve been good to me. They’ve been very motivating.

‘They’ve been pushing me and I don’t want to get on the wrong side of them. I am going to win this thing and I’m going to put a smile on all my team mates’ faces today.’

Amir was locked in a large tank lined with numbered sealed boxes – which he had to open with spanners as it filled with water.

Each would contain the corresponding spanner for the next box, until he got to the final one which would contain the spanner to release the grill above him.

However, a number of water-based jungle critters would be guarding each box, providing added factor in his quest for food for camp.

Determined not to let camp miss out on food again, the boxer then steamed through boxes three-six, and was seemingly unfazed by the mud crabs, crayfish and yabbies in his way – uttering between breaths: ‘I can’t let my team down!’

His efforts were so impressive in comparison to Monday night, Ant and Dec even joked the Rocky themetune should be playing in the background.

However, a minor hiccup occurred when he reached box seven, with Amir dropping the spanner to the bottom of the tank.

The star was forced to plunge back down to the depths of his container, and desperately scrambled around for the tool with only two minutes remaining.

First finding the wrong spanner among a snappy group of yabbies, he soon located the correct equipment and powered back to the top – opening the last two boxes and releasing the grill, with mere seconds to spare.

Emerging from the tank with a beaming smile on his face, the Bolton native said: ‘I was so focused. I wouldn’t let me team mates down in camp.

‘It was so hard in there honestly! It was tough but I am glad I can go back now and make my camp smile.’

Ant and Dec presented him with another meal ticket, meaning that six camp mates would eat that evening.

He later reflected of his efforts: ‘It was exciting, it was challenging, it was hard… but I’ve got an extra meal for my team. That makes me very happy today. I’m very proud of myself!’

Taking the ticket back to camp, the boxer was greeted with huge cheers from the rest of camp – and he soon assigned the ticket to Boris Johnson’s father Stanley.

However, the politician reasoned: ‘You’re the man who earned it! I don’t deserve it. Shappi tried to give me one last night. And then Amir come back brandishing a meal ticket and hands it to me and says he want to give it to me.’

Before adding: ‘I’m touched beyond belief and I shall do my best to deserve the honour.’

Yet, the boxer later quipped in the Bush Telegraph: ‘I’ve come back with a meal ticket and food for camp… but not myself!’ before laughing awkwardly.

It was hilariously revealed that Amir had once got his head stuck in a gate as a child, and that Becky had eaten her placenta after the birth of her child.

Getting on like a house on fire, Toff even admitted she had a slight crush on Stanley, revealing coyly: ‘I have always said I do have a thing for older politicians before I came in here… and can confirm that is still standing!’

Toff and Becky Vardy were then voted by the public to compete in the next trial – the first of the dreaded eating challenges – which will air on Wednesday night.

The next installment will no doubt be an exciting episode for both viewers and camp mates, as two new celebrities are set to enter camp.

Controversial radio host Iain Lee and former Labour leader Kezia Dugdale confirmed they were making a late arrival into camp on Tuesday, amid heavy speculation.

It was reported by The Sun on Monday that Iain has agreed to enter the ITV entertainment stalwart, after bosses expressed their desire for a star who would ‘ruffle a few feathers’.

However, Iain’s appearance on the show awkwardly comes after he blasted the beloved ITV series as ‘desperate’, in a past interview.

He revealed he declined to appear on the show to the Independent in 2005, and when probed as to why, he said: ‘I’m desperate, but I’m not that desperate – yet.’

Meanwhile Kezia’s decision to join the show has sparked fury amongst the Scottish Labour party – after she asked bosses for permission to go on an overseas charity trip, and did not disclose it was for I’m A Celeb.

The politician had stood down as leader of the party in September 2017 but remains a member of Scottish Parliament for Lothian.

An insider however told The Sun that she will be giving her fee to charity: ‘She didn’t go into the specifics of it being I’m A Celebrity’.

Yesterday New Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard said the party did not approve her decision to take three weeks off work to join the show in the Australian jungle.

Labour MSPs are expected to meet today to decide whether their former leader should be suspended from the party following a public backlash against her decision to appear on the ITV show during the Scottish parliament term.

The Scottish Daily Mail understands that some will attempt to persuade others in the group that Miss Dugdale’s decision is so ill-judged that she should be suspended and forced to become an independent MSP.
