The latest scare has seen the crew place warning signs around the camp to remind the crew to remain calm if they see a snake, according to The Sun.

The venom from an Eastern small-eyed snake can attack muscle tissue for days after the bite while red-bellied serpents can give a painful bite but are generally shy and are frequently seen on the east coast of Australia.

‘There have been loads of sightings around the camp and they are likely to become agitated if they are disturbed,’ an insider told The Sun.

‘All of the crew are watching their step given that the bites can cause serious health problems if they are not treated rapidly.’

ITV declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.

Max Walker, who runs Murwillumbah Snake Catchers, which is based near the I’m A Celebrity camp, said the Eastern small-eyed snake is provoked by sudden movement.

The expert said that the bite from a red-bellied serpent will act faster but will likely not be fatal but could leave you needing hospital treatment/

He added: ‘The snakes in Australia won’t bite you while you are sleeping, the only thing that will go wrong in Australia is sometimes the snake will come up to the person who is sleeping and snuggle up for warmth.’

It comes after former health secretary Matt, 44, had to be rushed to medics after being stung by a scorpion in main camp on Sunday.

The show’s medics treated the Tory MP after a scorpion penetrated his finger – but luckily for Matt, it wasn’t a deadly sting.

As the injury was shown on air, Matt compared the injury to a bee sting, but said the pain was twice as bad.

An insider also told MailOnline: ‘Matt was shocked – it’s not every day that a scorpion stings you.

‘He’s already had such an eventful first week in camp after completing trial after trial – and now he’s been treated by the show’s medics too.

‘The scorpion was safely removed from camp and thankfully, it wasn’t poisonous.’

Matt’s reaction to the shock injury was also shown on air, as he came across the beast while riffling through his belongings in main camp.

Comedian Babatunde Aléshé then made reference to the scorpion sting after Ant and Dec revealed Matt had been voted for his fourth Bushtucker trial.

He said: ‘Do you know what Matt? You are the man, you are the man, four trials and you got stung by a scorpion, and you have to go do a trial.’
