I’m living on top of a VOLCANO for a month to test my mental strength

A woman has revealed she is living on top of a giant volcano for a whole month in the hopes of setting a world record and inspiring other women to ‘test’ their ‘mental strength.’

Perla Tijerina, 31, from Saltillo, Mexico, is currently on her eighth day of living 5,636 meters – or 18,491 ft – above sea level on the highest mountain in Latin America, Pico de Orizaba.

She will reside on top of the towering volcano for a total of 32 days, and attempt to survive through violent winds, electrical storms, hypothermia, and sickness in the mountains.

In addition to setting a world record, Perla hopes to encourage others to never give up on their dreams, despite the obstacles.

She explained that she loves the adventure and thrill of the terrifying task.

‘I like to test my mental strength.

‘It led me to carry out this great challenge, which I’ve named the “high-rise woman.”

The climber began venturing to the top of mountains five years ago and set out to conquer Pico de Orizaba.

She set a particular challenge for herself, residing at the top for 32 days, something that has only ever been done by the Spanish Luis Garrido who stayed on Aconcagua in Argentina.

Before beginning her adventure, Perla underwent frequent medical and psychological checks.

A psychologist assured her she was prepared for any physical dangers but warned her about the mental strain the quest may have on her.

‘The psychologist told me, “You are very prepared for everything, even for an emergency, but mental preparation is essential, because a promotion is very different from those you have undergone to be in solitude in 32 days,”‘ she told local news outlet Imer Noticias.

Once she reaches the top of Pico de Orizaba – which is the third highest mountain in North America – she will constantly keep track of her oxygen and blood pressure to ensure she is safe.

She has set up a camp 15 minutes from the peak, in a secure space that allows her to seek shelter from any snowfall or wind.

To help keep herself entertained, she brought along many items from home,

She said: ‘I am never alone, I have too many books to read, and I meditate.

‘I have the bible that I read at all times to keep me spiritually and mentally strong.’

She is sharing her journey on Instagram, where she has over 2,400 followers, in hopes of inspiring other women across the globe.

Perla said: ‘I want to be an inspiration for all those women who are looking for a motivation that encourages them to continue making an effort, to be constant and not to give up despite the obstacles.’
