A Good Samaritan dog walker has been hailed as a hero for helping police capture a wanted man on the Gold Coast.

Police have released incredible Polair footage of the dramatic arrest which unfolded on the streets of Mermaid Waters on Thursday morning.

Police were chasing an allegedly stolen white Toyota Hilux when the driver rammed a police car and reversed into another cop vehicle.

Police deployed a tyre deflation device to stop the vehicle and the pursuit ended shortly afterwards as the driver tried to flee the scene.

He was stopped in his tracks by a passer-by walking his dog along a nearby bridge, who crash-tackled the man to the ground.

The dog surrounded the pair to ensure the offender didn’t get away.

The Good Samaritan managed to detain the man on the ground until police arrived a short time later, where officers are captured high-fiving the dog walker for his heroic efforts.

The man was taken into custody shortly afterwards without incident.

He was refused bail to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.

Queensland Police are now on the hunt to track down the Good Samaritan dog walker, so he can be commended for his actions.

‘Good police work with the help from a member of the public leads to man’s arrest in Mermaid Waters today,’ the police captioned the footage on social media.
