Indianapolis Colts make another huge call at quarterback after Anthony Richardson ‘tap out’ controversy

Anthony Richardson has regained his place as the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts.

The 22-year-old – the No 4 overall pick in the 2023 Draft – was recently benched in place of Joe Flacco after he controversially removed himself from a game against the Texans – despite not being injured.

Just two days ago, head coach Shane Steichen said veteran Flacco would start once more against the New York Jets on Sunday.

But on Wednesday morning, Steichen u-turned and revealed that Richardson would in fact start for the rest of the NFL season.

‘It’s the attention to detail in everything he does,’ Steichen said of the 22-year-old.

‘All the little things just have to be at a higher standard. That was discussed with him two weeks ago, and he’s made strides in those areas. He’s a pros pro. It’s my job to get him there.’

The decision comes after the Colts’ loss to the Bills on Sunday, which left Indianapolis with a record of 4-6 for the season.

Richardson, whose rookie season was cut short by injury, started just 10 NFL games before being benched.

According to ESPN, the Colts have been insistent they never gave up on the former Florida quarterback.
