Infant snowsuits from The Children’s Place recalled over choking fears

15,000 infant snowsuits from The Children’s Place recalled over fears their snaps are a choking hazard

  • The popular children’s apparel store has recalled 15,000 infant snowsuits
  • Designed for girls 0-18 months old, the suits come in three colors
  • They feature small snaps that can become detached and pose a choking hazard
  • So far, only one choking incident has been reported

Popular kids clothing retailer The Children’s place has issued a voluntary recall of one of its lines of infant snow suits over concerns that the garments’ metal snaps may be a chocking hazard.

The recall only applies to suits marketed to keep baby girls warm and sold in the US and Canada.

If the little metal snaps used to secure tots into the suits come off, as they are wont to do, they could potentially choke children, the retailer’s advisory explains.

The Children’s Place is offering refunds to parents who return any of the 15,000 potentially hazardous products.

Babies are naturally curious and love to put anything in their mouths, but if food or an object slides down too far, their narrow airways can easily be blocked.

About every five days, at least one child dies from chocking.

Most childhood choking incidents are caused by food, and typically affect toddlers under three.

Over 12,000 kids wind up in the ER for food-choking every year, but any small object can do the trick.

Toys are the next most common culprit, especially those involving batteries, balloons, magnets, coins, marbles and art supplies.

Snaps themselves don’t make the list, but it’s easy to see how a little metal disk come loose from garment could wind up lodged in a baby’s throat.

Small metal snaps meant to bundle up 0-18-month-old baby girls can do just that, according the recall.

So far, the retailer says that just one incident of choking has been reported.

The closures were used on three different patterns: ‘White Sophy floral,’ which is white with multi-colored daisy graphics, ‘Jazzberry Ladybug,’ a pink suit decorated with drawings of the insects and ‘Rosebud Heart,’ a pink pail material.

If you have purchased a snowsuit from The Children’s Place, check it’s label to see if it is item number 2111187 or 2111188.

‘Consumers should immediately take the snowsuit away from children and return it to any The Children’s Place store nationwide for a full refund, or contact the Children’s Place customer service, toll-free, at 877-752-2387,’ the company’s site instructs.
