Injured PSG star Neymar ‘proud’ of his team after Real Madrid loss

Neymar lauded the efforts of his Paris Saint-Germain team-mates after he was forced to watch on as Real Madrid dumped them out of the Champions League.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro ensured Los Blancos progressed through to the quarter-finals, building on their 3-1 first-leg win in Madrid.

The Parisians faced an uphill battle in trying to overcome Real’s two-goal advantage, especially given their superstar playmaker was crocked with with a fractured foot.

But the Brazilian, who is recovering from surgery on the broken metatarsal, was proud of the players’ efforts on Tuesday night.

He wrote on Twitter: ‘I am sad for defeat, much sadder for not being in the field helping my companions!!

‘What makes me proud is to see everyone’s effort. Congratulations my guys, ALLEZ PARIS.’

It means PSG are now only fighting on the domestic front for the chance of silverware this season.

Unai Emery’s side sit atop Ligue 1, are in the Coupe de la Ligue final and semi-finals of the Coupe de France.

They face Metz on Saturday in their next league outing.
