A gang of thugs have been caught on camera surrounding an innocent man before knocking him unconscious in a brutal one-punch attack.

The sickening incident outside a pub in Collingwood, Melbourne, left the 40-year-old victim with horrific facial injuries.

CCTV footage, obtained by Nine News, shows one of the men land a single blow to the victim’s head, knocking him to the ground. 

As he lay motionless, his attacker searched his pockets before another brutally kicked him in the face. 

Senior Constable Ranai Cullen described the attack as ‘horrible’ and ‘unprovoked’.

‘The victim is very lucky that he has made a full recovery given the initial injuries,’ she told the network. 

The incident started when one of the attackers took the victim’s glasses and began to taunt him, it is understood.

The thugs then surrounded the victim and asked him for a cigarette, before the sickening punch was thrown.

Earlier, the footage showed one of the attackers push another passer-by, who managed to escape.

No one has been arrested over the violent incident, which unfolded at around 3am on January 27.
