Inside Cristiano Ronaldo’s luxury £6m Lisbon penthouse as he awaits Manchester United return

Cristiano Ronaldo is staying at the most expensive flat in Portugal as he waits for his sensational return to Manchester United from Juventus to be confirmed.

The 36-year-old completed a medical in Lisbon over the weekend as a move which will see him re-join the Red Devils more than a decade after his departure edged a step closer.

Now with the customary early-season international break taking place over the next 10 days, Portugal star Ronaldo has chosen to reside in his £6million penthouse located on the Avenida da Liberdade in the centre of the capital.

Reports earlier this year suggested the former Real Madrid star bought the flat in Lisbon in July 2018, but news of his purchase only began to surface earlier this year. PrimeTimeZone meanwhile have recorded it as the most expensive apartment ever sold in the country.

And the Portugal international had done well to keep his acquisition under wraps, reportedly beating bids from two other millionaires to buy the 3,100 square feet property, which is close to the neighbourhood where a young Ronaldo spent some of his childhood.

Inside Ronaldo’s flat – which Flash reports is one of two luxury apartments he owns in Lisbon – includes a swimming pool, a gym, three large bedrooms and even a spa.

Building work on the mansion potentially began more than 10 years ago, when he was still representing United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo has primarily resided in the property when he has wanted to enjoy some privacy, but it has not prevented the site from becoming a tourist attraction, particularly for football fanatics around the globe.

But the forward has now opted to spend more time there, briefly joined by girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez, after they returned from Turin to Lisbon via a private jet amid his impending dramatic return to Old Trafford.

Rodriguez has since headed back to Italy along with Ronaldo’s children as they make their preparations to leave the country for life in Manchester, while the player himself is still waiting for the finer details of his visa to be sorted.

But while Ronaldo is known for his showmanship on the field, his neighbour Elizabeth told The Sun earlier this year that he lives a rather more relaxed life whenever he takes time out in his apartment.

‘A lot of silence, no parties. I’ve never seen cars pass by our private road,’ she said.

‘I often see him at the wheel of a Rolls-Royce. We see him pass every day, with tinted windows. But in the garage of his house he also has sports cars, like a Lotus.

‘He has a beautiful indoor pool and a small garden. and well taken care of with colourful flowers.

‘I see Cristiano Junior often wandering with his skateboard, up and down the street that leads to our homes, always with the bodyguards behind.

‘Like the mother, Georgina, also followed by a babysitter who helps her with both cars – one double for the twins and one individual.’

Ronaldo meanwhile recently sold a mansion for £2m to Portugal team-mate Pepe in the Geres area of northern Portugal.

But after the international break – which sees Portugal face Republic of Ireland and Azerbaijan in World Cup qualifiers either side of a friendly against Qatar – Ronaldo will return to another city which became his home for six trophy-laden years.

Terms have been agreed on a two-year deal between Ronaldo and United and according to Sky Sports, the club have also inserted a clause to extend the contract for a further season. They will pay around £20m to Juventus.

Ronaldo is expected to have agreed terms on a £480,000-a-week deal at United, which will make him the Premier League’s highest-paid player. He could make his second United debut on September 11 against Newcastle at Old Trafford.

A three-year spell at United would see Ronaldo comfortably become the oldest player in the league. At present, that honour belongs to Chelsea defender Thiago Silva at 36 years, 11 months and five days.

And his return will complete a whirlwind week for the 36-year-old, who as recently as Friday morning looked set to join United’s fierce rivals City and play under Pep Guardiola.

But United made contact with Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, while club legends such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Rio Ferdinand called Ronaldo to try and dissuade him from joining the blue half of Manchester.

Speaking prior to United’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Sunday, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backed Ronaldo – who scored 118 goals in 292 appearances and won three Premier League titles in his first spell – to elevate the team to a new level.

‘Hopefully we can get the paperwork sorted and announce it,’ said Solskjaer. ‘He is a great player, a great human being. I’m excited to keep building this squad. He will bring something completely different.

‘Let’s get him back to United after the break and hopefully he’ll be involved as soon as possible. He will make us a better team.

‘Hopefully Cristiano can come in and show what he has done in his career. I am sure he likes all the talk about being old. Make it personal and he will show what he can do.’
