The man leading England to the quarter-finals this weekend has developed into something of a heartthrob as he takes careful notes from the side of the pitch dressed in an impeccable waistcoat.

It’s no surprise, then, that Gareth Southgate’s excellent taste is also exemplified in his sprawling 16th-century mansion in North Yorkshire.

The huge house boasts six bedrooms, crystal lamps, ample grounds, and, as any sophisticated manager’s home should, a wine cellar.

Aged beams look down upon antique tables from vaulted ceilings at the £3.75million property, which has four floors, four bathrooms, and a wood-paneled drawing-room, pictures obtained by The Sun show.

Suave Southgate decorates his home with bouquets of white roses and keeps his theme old-school with marble and velour throughout the house, which also has a baronial hall fireplace.

A private cinema complete with reclining seats provides the perfect way to unwind with Alison, to whom he has been married for 20 years.

And if the man who oversaw England’s first-ever World Cup penalty shoot-out win on Tuesday ever feels short of an impressive tale to tell, he can point guests in the direction of his antique collection of goblets and statues.

The former Crystal Palace player and his wife bought the Grade 1 listed home back in 2006 for £3.25m but it isn’t their only property on the site, which boasts a barn big enough to house an 11-man squad.

The 8,000 sq ft house sits in 4.5 acres of formal grounds and legend has it that a ghost occupies the main building.

A thief known as Robinson is rumored to haunt the mansion. Author and historian William Grainge say the criminal lived in a cottage close to the site before traveling to London, where he looted valuables from the houses of victims of the 1665 Great Plague.

The story goes that he was plagued by visions of the dead he stole from and tried to cleanse the loot in the spring when he returned to Yorkshire.

Believers say that his ghost haunts the same spring to this day and even floats within the grounds owned by the Southgates.

Gareth tried to sell the property in 2016 for £3.75million, dropping it in recent months for the sum his family bought it for. It went up for sale when he was caught up in a tax row over dodgy investments.

To deter nosy fans whose interest peaked when Gareth took over the England job, potential buyers had to prove they could afford the home before they were given a tour. It was taken off the market ahead of the World Cup so the manager could focus all his efforts on the tournament.

But it is thought that the house is now back up for sale so that the family can move closer to their children’s school.
