Inside Gordon Ramsay’s Cornish holiday home he is renting out for up to £7,000 per week

TV chef Gordon Ramsay is cooking up a profit by letting out a converted bank to holidaymakers for up to £7,000 for a long weekend.

The hot-tempered culinary celebrity bought the closed-down Lloyd’s bank in the main street of Fowey, Cornwall last year for £2million, just half a mile from the £5million mansion where comedian Dawn French lives.

Builders have now finished turning the grade II-listed former bank into a holiday let for up to ten people.

And cash-savvy Ramsay, 51, is advertising it for between £3,525 and £7,000 for a long weekend or a midweek break depending on the time of year.

But people commenting on Cornwall Live’s Facebook page were unimpressed by Ramsay’s plans, with Sarah Carter writing: ‘He’s just giving the impression that only “Hooray Henry’s” visit Cornwall and that simply isn’t the case.’

People commenting on Cornwall Live’s Facebook page told how they were unimpressed by Gordon Ramsay’s plans

‘Families wanting a budget holiday each year and My Mum and I visit Cornwall regularly too to see family and friends. We/They want affordable accommodation on and Cornwall residents on the housing waiting list would love a place to call home aswell.’

Steve Mattocks added: ‘Rather sleep on the beach than put money in this foul mouthed morons pocket who happens to be able to boil an egg.’ And Judith Duke said: ‘Vile, bad mouthed individual. Cornwall doesn’t want residents like him.’

The hot-tempered chef has spent more than £10million on property in Cornwall since 2015, including the former bank in Fore Street, Fowey.

He’s currently building a multi-million pound home at Rock, near Padstow – nicknamed ‘Padstein’ because another TV chef, Rick Stein, owns many properties there.

Ramsay’s wife Tana revealed recently that their family just can’t get enough of Cornwall.

She said: ‘It’s the place where I see Gordon truly relax, and the lack of a phone signal is an absolute blessing.

‘He has always had an obsession with the sea, and spends hours fishing or just sitting on the dunes.

‘Our children take a dinghy and sit in the estuary and have fun. It’s all nice and healthy.’

‘A former bank and in an enviable position in the heart of bustling, beautiful Fowey, Trevail House is right on the water with the most incredible views.

‘The moment you shut the door behind you, you’ll leave your worries behind.

‘Breathe in the beautifully-scented sea air and soak in the calm – set over  three floors, expect gorgeous interiors, incredible facilities, plenty of space and a fabulously sun-drenched garden.

‘If you can drag yourself away from your retreat, the town of Fowey is fabulous with an eclectic mix of artisanal and independent shops, top-notch restaurants and a host of activities such as kayaking, hiring a boat or exploring the South West Coastal path.’

Planning permission was sought to turn the grade two-listed property into a four-bedroom home, although the ground floor was reserved for retail use.

The Lloyds Bank branch shut its doors in September 2015 after being selected for closure as part of a wider cost-cutting programme.

Gordon Ramsay Holdings asked Cornwall Council about the possibility of turning the retail section into residential.

But a senior development officer advised that his plans to convert the entire building into a home might not be approved if he could not justify the loss of retail space in Fowey town centre.

The front part of the building is also positioned within a flood zone, meaning residential development was considered unlikely to be given the go-ahead.

Ramsay was spotted in Fowey on a number of occasions last summer and in August one local photographed him and his wife Tana walking past the former bank.

Also in 2015, he bought a five-bedroom holiday cottage in Rock for £4.4million, which was the second most expensive sale ever recorded in Cornwall at the time.

Estate agents said the 1920s property needed modernising and in July last year Ramsay won an eight-month battle to demolish the home.

He was granted planning permission to knock it down and replace it with a main house and a smaller second property.

He then splashed out another £4million on a beach house in the nearby village of Trebetherick for the family to use while the Rock home was being rebuilt.

The Trebetherick property has six bedrooms, four en-suite bathrooms, two kitchens, three reception rooms, a wine cellar, a swimming pool, tennis court and almost 2.5 acres of land.
