Inside Scott Morrison’s exclusive holiday: How PM stayed on island where raunchy blockbuster Blue Lagoon was filmed and upgraded to a $3174-a-night villa

Prime Minister Scott Morrison was upgraded to a villa costing more than $3,000 per night for free when he holidayed at a luxury Fiji island with his family.

Mr Morrison travelled to Turtle Island – a world-famous holiday destination which has welcomed prominent guests like Rupert Murdoch and Britney Spears – with his family in June.

Turtle Island confirmed to The New Daily the prime minister received a free upgrade from a $2,500-a-night Water’s Edge Villa to the $3,174-a-night Grand Villa.

The five-star result has 14 villas and 12 private beaches and was the film location for the 1980 movie Blue Lagoon, starring Brooke Shields. 

Turtle Island’s owner Richard Evanson decided to open it to guests after the film as realised he enjoyed having people on the island who appreciated its beauty, the resort’s website says. 

Mr Morrison’s Register of Members’ interests to Parliament also confirms the Liberal leader was upgraded during the family getaway.

Under a title detailed ‘sponsored travel or hospitality received where the value… exceeds $300’, Mr Morrison’s accommodation upgrade at Turtle Island was listed.

The document also shows Mr Morrison’s flights to and from Fiji were upgraded. 

‘Upgrade of four economy tickets from Fiji Air for travel from Sydney to Fiji June 2019,’ it says.

‘Upgrade of four economy tickets from Qantas for travel from Fiji to Sydney June 2019.’ 

The revelation comes after Mr Morrison returned from a secretive getaway to Hawaii last weekend.

He was widely criticised for the timing of the holiday as Australia continues to battle bushfires. 

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Prime Minister’s Office for comment.
