  • The farm was a rural property in Peelwood – 90km north-west of Goulburn

A German backpacker was allegedly trapped and raped by a farm manager at an isolated property in rural New South Wales.

Photos of the farm in Peelwood, between Goulburn and Bathurst, where the 18-year-old claims she was assaulted, show a dilapidated home at the end of a dirt road.

Old car parts had been discarded at the front of the property and ripped furniture was scattered on the lawn.

The inside of the home was filled with discarded bourbon and whisky bottles, cardboard boxes and rubbish.

A pile of empty boxes of opiod drug Tramedo could be seen on one of the beds.

The home, which was advertised on farmstay site WWOOF Australia, was owned by horsebreeder Gregory Richard Douglas, 66, who has been accused of sexually touching the tourist on several occasions between September 28 and 18 October.

He is facing one charge of sexual assault and four counts of touching a person without consent.

Court documents allege that throughout that time Douglas had sex with the teen, kissed her bottom, touched her breasts and inner thigh near her vagina and grabbed her hips, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The backpacker told police she felt trapped.

It takes an hour to drive to the nearest town where there’s cellphone reception.

The 18-year-old girl found had volunteered to work at the farm in exchange for accommodation and  food after it was advertised on a website for backpackers.

The post, which has now been removed, featured pictures of other travellers riding horses.

Magistrate Geraldine Beattie told the court on Wednesday the teen claimed the isolation of the property worked against her.

‘She was totally reliant on the defendant for food, accommodation and transport, she couldn’t just walk down the street and get away.’

Douglas’ lawyer Sam Rowland said he will be defending the charges, arguing that what happened was consensual.

He requested bail to allow his client to care for the 90 horses he has on the farm.

However, bail was denied with Magistrate Beattie saying someone else will have to care for the animals.

‘The matters are of great concern, alleging an 18-year-old who has travelled from overseas to work on a rural property.

‘She was reliant and dependent on the defendant.’

He will appear again at Goulburn Local Court on December 18.

Police inquiries are continuing.

A spokeswoman for WWOOF Australia website said they are working with the police and assisting them where possible.

‘WWOOF has more than 1100 host farms and 3000 members and if there are complaints we remove their profile from the site.’
