Inside this incredible home built from three shipping containers in Wellington New Zealand

A stunning property built from three shipping containers stacked on top of one another in Wellington, New Zealand, is attracting huge interest from potential buyers, after it hit the market earlier this month.

The 17-year-old container home, that appears to hang off the side of a rockface in Owhiro Bay, Wellington, is unlike any other home – with its unusual Modernist exterior and surprisingly spacious and stylish interiors.

The 90-square-metre property has a price guide of NZ $630,000 (AUD $587,000), but because it is going to auction, the property agent Jane Park said she is expecting it to go for more.

‘I can’t manage any open homes for it after selling it six years ago when half of Wellington came to see it,’ Jane told FEMAIL.

‘But I know the interest is there in this house, which just has so much wow factor.’

Some of the highlights of the property include a spiral staircase to the upper levels, a waterfall with recirculating water (not rainfall), an elevated courtyard on the cliff side of the house and an outdoor shower and home spa.

The home also boasts a ‘media room’ with a home cinema, a two-car garage, billiards room in the garage and a sun-drenched balcony, as well as three bedrooms and one bathroom.

While the property is Modernist from the outside, the interiors have been thoughtfully constructed and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor space (pictured is the elevated courtyard in a hidden sanctuary)

The shipping container space has steadily grown over time, with the first container being built in 2003, the second being added in 2007 and finally the third that came about in 2010.

For the past six years, it has been used as an Airbnb, where thousands from across the globe have come from far and wide to marvel at the unique space.

‘This is the coolest, quirkiest house! Such an awesome experience to stay here for a few days! Would absolutely recommend,’ one recent review posted.

‘We really enjoyed our stay at the container house. The house is so well laid out and built and definitely has a wow factor, the library of books, games and music helped pass the time during the evenings and the outdoor area was awesome,’ another added.

The reviewer added: ‘Due to the way the place is laid out, it feels amazingly spacious despite being a container built house. Our only regret is that we only stayed a couple of nights and not more.’

The property will be auctioned on 12 June 2020, and those interested can watch a virtual home tour to take an interactive walk around the house.
