Labor insiders believe Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is still suffering significant pain from breaking his spine – and believe it may explain his bouts of ‘Angry Dan’.
The father-of-two fractured his T7 vertebrae and cracked five ribs during a horror fall at a Mornington Peninsula holiday home on March 9 last year, which saw him benched from the job for six months.
The Herald Sun’s VWeekend magazine reports that Mr Andrews opened the new Australian Golf Centre in April and was asked to hit the first shot.
But Mr Andrews declined the offer – reportedly saying he needs to undergo 30 minutes of rigorous warm-up exercises before doing anything physical.

Mr Andrews was hospitalised on March 9, 2021 and spent 10 days in hospital after suffering the horrific fall at a Sorrento holiday house. He returned to the job in June
Sources reportedly claimed to the magazine that this pain may be the reason behind Mr Andrews bouts of crankiness – or ‘angry Dan’.
Mr Andrews’ suffered such bad injuries from the fall at his Sorrento beach house he couldn’t call out to his wife because he couldn’t breathe.
Luckily, Catherine Andrews found him badly injured moments after he toppled over.
‘As I put my foot on to the first step. I knew I was in trouble,’ he said at the time.
‘I didn’t really connect with the step it just slid straight off, I became airborne almost,’ he said at the time.
‘Then all I can hear is just this almighty crunch.
‘When I heard the crunch, I knew. I thought this is serious, we’re in trouble here.’
X-rays revealed he’d sustained an acute compression fracture of the T7 and broke several ribs, which caused the lower section of his lungs to collapse.
Mr Andrews’ sudden disappearance from the top job sparked vicious, false and sometimes ridiculous theories about his fall.

One fantastical claim was that the Belt and Road Deal his government signed with China – which has since been disbanded – angered Victorian businesses and led to someone acting out against him.
Other conspiracists even falsely claim Andrews was attacked at the party held by a prominent Australian businessman.
The incident is now long in the past – with Mr Andrews’ seeking a third four year term in November this year.
Four senior ministers – Deputy Premier James Merlino, Health Minister Martin Foley, Sport and Tourism Minister Martin Pakula and Police Minister Lisa Neville – stepped down last month.
