Instagram lets users broadcast live videos with friends

Instagram has introduced a new video feature called ‘Go Live With’ that allows users to add friends in to live broadcasts.

Videos created with the Go Live With feature can be saved to your phone, or shared with followers on your story.

It is part of an expansion into live video that Facebook, which owns Instagram, hopes will allow the app to keep up with competition from the likes of Snapchat.

Instagram has introduced a video feature that allows you and a friend to video stream face to face for the first time. The feature was first tested in August with a small percentage of users

HOW TO GO LIVE WITH FRIENDS ON INSTAGRAM

To add a guest while you’re broadcasting, simply tap the new icon on the bottom right.

Then press ‘Add’ to invite anyone who’s currently watching.

Once they join, you’ll see the screen split into two and your friend pop up right below you.

Your viewers can still like and comment as they follow along.

You can remove your guest and add someone else at any time, or they can also choose to exit on their own.

Share your live video to stories when your broadcast has ended, or choose ‘Discard’ and your live video will disappear from the app as usual.

The feature was first tested back in August with a small percentage of its users.

The Go Live With icon appears on the app in the bottom right hand corner of the screen once you begin streaming a live video to your followers.

Guests can be added to the session for camera-to-camera chats.

And friends can follow the conversation with their own messages and emoji.

When someone you follow is going live with a friend, you’ll see two circles stacked together in your stories bar.

You can tap on it to watch, and like and comment as you follow along.

A spokesman for Instagram said: ‘Live video helps people connect with their friends and followers in the moment and in an authentic way, but sometimes it can be intimidating when you’re on your own.

‘With this update, users will be able to bring in a guest to go live with them and follow along as friends like and comment.’
