A photo of a tiny baby with long pointed fingernails has caused huge consternation after being posted to Instagram.
The unusual image was posted by Daily_earthpix, which shares images of nature and animals, asking followers: ‘Cute or not?’
The fingernails on the tiny hand were so perfectly pointed the looked as if they had been deliberately filed into shape, while a glossy sheen suggested there may be a layer of clear nail polish.
More than 34,000 people have liked the image, but none of the commenters agreed it looked cute.
Dozens warned that it was dangerous for the baby who could easily scratch its delicate skin.

Babies can be born with long nails and according NHS advice states that they should be cut or filed down so they don’t scratch themselves.
While many posters were concerned with safety, others were just plain horrified with the way it looked, describing the nails as ‘freaking ugly’ and ‘like cat claws’.
