Owner of the cafe, Angela Wang wanted to give her customers something different before opening the doors in February.

Ms Wang told ABC that her friend advised her that Brisbane needed something other than ‘just another cafe’.

It was that same friend that bought her the machine, allowing pictured to be printed on foam coffees.

‘Coffee is a culture, but we can make the culture even more interesting in Australia,’ Ms Wang said.

Although she prefers her cafe to have a reputation for her good quality coffee and service, Ms Wang said that the printed coffee was an extra selling point to bring customers in.

‘The best thing is that it makes customers come in without them knowing whether my coffee is good or not, so it’s been helpful for me as I don’t have a lot of marketing experience,’ she said.

The printed coffee was most popular with younger customers who were excited to see their picture on the top of their coffee.

‘The majority of the customers are Generation Y and tourists — some of the older people can’t accept it and they don’t want their face on anything,’ Ms Wang said.

HOW DOES THE PRINTED COFFEE WORK?

When you order your coffee, it is made by a barista at a regular coffee machine.

A layer of foam is put on top to work as a ‘canvas’ for the picture.

Customers can either supply an image or have one taken in the cafe.

The image is uploaded to a phone app synced to a special printer.

The photo is cropped the fit the cup ratio and the image is printed onto the foam using edible ink in any colour.
