Investigators describe finding tooth on Patrick Frazee’s ranch while probing Kelsey Berreth murder

Investigators on Friday told a Colorado court that they used cadaver-sniffing dogs to discover part of a tooth belonging to a woman who was allegedly beaten to death by her husband who then burned her body with the help of his mistress as two ranch hands corroborate Krystal Lee Kenney’s testimony.

FBI agents and investigators corroborated the dramatic testimony offered up earlier in the week by the prosecution’s star witness, Kenney, who described in detail how she and her lover, Patrick Frazee, disposed of Kelsey Berreth’s body.

FBI Special Agent Donald Peterson testified on Friday that he led the excavation of the burn pit at Frazee’s ranch.

Peterson told jurors that he found what he believed to be a tooth near the pit, according to KMGH-TV.

Kenney, an Idaho nurse, told jurors that she had an on-and-off affair with Frazee for years.

Kenney, who became Frazee’s mistress in 2015, shared the sordid details of their relationship and claims he demanded she clean the murder scene after he bludgeoned Berreth on Thanksgiving.

She testified that on Thanksgiving Day, she received a phone call from a ‘rattled’ Frazee who ‘told me I have a mess to clean up.’

Prosecutors on Friday sought to corroborate Kenney’s testimony.

They called to the witness stand two teenage boys who said they helped Frazee move a trough on his ranch and cover up a part of the property where a burn had taken place, according to KUSA-TV.

During his testimony, Kenney described watching Frazee burn a black tote which contained Berreth’s remains inside a trough at his ranch in Florissant, Colorado.

The boys, who worked as ranch hands, testified that Frazee frequently burned trash, so they did not suspect anything was out of the ordinary.

Prosecutors on Friday also called to the witness stand the owner of another ranch where Kenney claims Frazee stored the tote before burning it.

Julie Nash testified that Frazee leased the property from her for his cattle and had access to a red hay barn.

Two months after Frazee’s arrest last December, Kevin Hurst, an independent K-9 investigator, and Radar, his cadaver-sniffing bloodhound, searched the ranch.

Hurst, who runs a non-profit that helps law enforcement agencies who cannot afford K-9 units, testified that Radar detected human remains on a discolored area in a hay bale.

Hurst testified that Radar has never had a false hit. He said the dog can detect the scent of a human body even if the area has been scrubbed with industrial-strength bleach.

Defense lawyers for Frazee who cross-examined Hurst asked if he had ever worked in hay before. Hurst replied that he had not.

Another cadaver dog handler, Brian Eberle, testified that he had his canine, Lucy, sniff out Berreth’s condo on December 4.

According to Eberle, Lucy detected human decomposition near the back bumper of Berreth’s car.

Prosecutors say this corroborates Kenney’s testimony from this week, when she claimed that she left trash bags with bloody items by Berreth’s car while she went to shut the front door.

Kenney also testified that she deliberately left some blood behind in Berreth’s home in the hope that investigators would find it, but Eberle testified that Lucy did not detect anything in the condo.

She testified on Thursday that when Frazee summoned her to Berreth’s home the day after the alleged murder, she ‘saw blood all over the floor and blood all over the wall.

‘There was blood on the front of the stove and the dishwasher, and on the floor there were bloody footprints,’ Kenney told the jury.

On Thursday, Kenney was asked by prosecutor Jennifer Viehman where Frazee and Berreth’s daughter, Kaylee, was when he allegedly killed Berreth on Thanksgiving 2018.

Kenney claimed that Kaylee was in the back room in her jumper while Frazee bludgeoned his fiancee with a bat, the Denver Channel reports.

Prosecutors showed the witnessed photos of the scene and of the toddler in her jumper, prompting tears from Kenney.

The woman said she filled six bags of trash and other items during the cleanup at Berreth’s home.

Kenney also claimed that she left specific blood splatters for authorities to discover, telling prosecution that she used Windex and bleach to clean the residence.

During cross examination, Frazee’s attorney wondered why she failed to alert authorities of the plot when she had ‘multiple opportunities’ to do so.

Kenney was also questioned how she was able to secure a plea deal before providing a formal statement to investigators, KIVI reports.

When she arrived at his Colorado home, with the cleaning supplies he’d told her to bring, he ordered her to clean off the footprints in the bathroom, Kenney told the murder trial Wednesday.

She says he also asked her to look for Berreth’s tooth in a vent.

Kenney told the court that Frazee told her Berreth’s last words were begging her fiance to ‘Please stop’.

She also revealed how in March 2016 – while she was still married to her husband and Frazee was dating Kelsey Berreth – she learned she was pregnant with his baby.

Krystal testified that Frazee did not even react when she told him the news, but did express his concern about being father to a ‘bastard child.’

He also told Krystal: ‘Well, I guess you’re a baby killer or you’re not.’

She told the court she aborted the baby.

Frazee greeted his ex by staring her down as she entered the courtroom, according to Fox 21.

Krystal described her tumultuous relationship with Frazee, saying that two first met in 2006 at a dance and were together for a year before they decided to split.

A year later, she saw him again when he offered to give her a border collie puppy.

She made the drive down to Colorado and after arriving was told that she should break up with her then-fiance and get back together with Frazee.

Krystal said that she refused that offer but did leave with the dog, which led to a threat from her ex.

‘Patrick said if he didn’t get the check, he was going to come to Idaho and kill the dog,’ said Krystal according to KTVB.

Frazee again popped up one day before Krystal’s wedding, urging her to call off the nuptials, she said.

Over the next five years there was no contact and Krystal had two children with her husband, but once they hit a rough patch in 2015 she reached out to Frazee.

The following year she became pregnant, but aborted the child and told Frazee she had a miscarriage.

She put their relationship on hold for a bit and filed for divorce from her husband.

Krystal then got into much of the information that she had shared in her interview with authorities earlier this year, including how Frazee allegedly asked her to kill Berreth four times.

In one instance, she was to give her coffee laced with drugs. Krystal said that she did bring Berreth the coffee in case Frazee as watching, but did not poison as directed.

Then she was asked to take Berreth’s life with a baseball bat, but again backed out at the scene, in case she was being monitored, she claimed.

Frazee then allegedly supplied Krystal with a metal pipe and asked her to take out Berreth by striking her on the back of her neck.

Berreth, 29, was last seen nearly a year ago with the couple’s daughter near her home in Woodland Park, about two hours south of Denver.

Frazee has denied killing her.
