Some iPhone and iPad users can’t type the letter ‘i’ into their devices thanks to a glitch in Apple’s iOS 11 software update.
When they try to type the symbol, their predictive text corrects it to an ‘A’ alongside a strange character.
While it’s not clear what caused the strange bug, users have shared a range of quick fixes online, and Apple has recommended a temporary workaround.

When some people try to type the letter, their predictive text corrects it to an ‘A’ alongside a strange character
Reddit user TheCravin reported the bug and said that Apple’s predictive keyboard feature suggests a random character like ‘A,’ ‘#,’ or ‘!’ followed by a ‘[?]’ symbol.
The phone’s predictive text automatically replaces the ‘I’ unless the user chooses to correct it, they said.
The glitch, which has yet to be fixed by Apple, arrived with iOS 11.1.
It seems to affect iMessage, as well as other apps including Instagram and Twitter.
The iOS 11.1 update, which brought bug fixes as well as a host of new emoji, does not seem to infect every device it is installed on with the new glitch.
Users have come up with several quick fixes, including turning off predictive text via settings or downloading a third party keyboard from the App Store.
Apple has since described a workaround for the issue using its text replacement feature.
For a temporary fix before the next iOS update, users can go to the Settings menu, tap General, then Keyboard, and finally tap Text Replacement.
Touch the ‘+’ symbol then in the Phrase option type ‘I’ and in Shortcut, type a lowercase ‘i’.
This will permanently replace all use of the letter ‘i’ with its uppercase version without going through predictive text.
Some people have taken to Twitter to complain about the bizarre glitch over the weekend. User @mcwm tweeted: ‘I have a $1,150 [£877] telephone that can’t read the letter “i”‘
‘WTF if wrong with iPhone now and this stupid symbols when I type the letter I!!!!!,’ Twitter user @TheJeanAbraham wrote
Apple is yet to respond to MailOnline’s request for comment.

iPhone and iPad users can’t type the letter ‘I’ into their devices in a bizarre new keyboard glitch
The glitch arrived with iOS11.1, which was released last week, bringing with it hundreds of new emojis.
The full set of new emojis included more smiley faces, gender-neutral characters, new clothing options like a trenchcoat and a headscarf, and fun mystical creatures such as vampires and genies.
The company has also added a new gesture – if you force-press on the left edge and swipe, you’ll go straight to the next app.
This gesture is much more efficient than double-pressing on the home button.
