Ireland rugby fan is abducted and gang-raped by three men while in Bordeaux to watch her nation play Romania

An Ireland rugby fan was abducted and then gang-raped by three men while in Bordeaux to watch her national team in the World Cup.

According to French reports, the 37-year-old woman was attacked overnight last night, with police currently ‘actively seeking’ the three men.

The attack is understood to have occurred around midnight on rue de la Rousselle in the heart of the city, close to where the woman was staying.

She was walking near her accommodation when she was allegedly attacked by three men who dragged her into an alleyway.

Nearby residents alerted the police, but the suspects had time to flee the scene.

According to L’Independant, the woman was able to return to her accommodation, but was in a state of shock and did not initially report the attack to French police.

But French officers called their Irish colleagues who were in the city during the Rugby World Cup, which saw Ireland take on Romania on Saturday.

The woman is understood to have been in the city to watch the match.

She was attended to by the Irish officers before being taken to Bordeaux University Hospital.

Prosecutors have opened an investigation into the alleged rape, with local media saying police are seeking three Caucasian men.
