‘I’ll never stop loving you’: Year 10 student hit and killed by a bus packed with his classmates as he was ‘riding a bike’ to school is remembered in a tribute by his big brother

A student riding his bike to school was hit and killed by a bus packed with his classmates.

Year 10 student Brennan Nean, 17, was struck by the bus outside the gates of Irrawang High, in Raymond Terrace, about 8.30am on Tuesday. 

Horrified children watched as their classmate was run over by the bus and trapped underneath.

‘I’ll never stop loving you,’ his older brother said in an online tribute. ‘Fly up my brother until we meet again.’

NSW Police Inspector Matt Hawke said the scene outside the school was ‘incredibly distressing’ for emergency service workers and witnesses.’

‘We did everything we could – nothing could be done,’ Inspector Hawke told reporters. 

Parents of school students said their kids had witnessed the tragedy and were ‘inconsolable’. 

‘This is at my son’s school. Kids are inconsolable and he said the school is so quiet everyone is in shock,’ a parent wrote on Facebook. 

Another said: ”My daughter witnessed this she was so shaken up she couldn’t even tell what happened.

The bus was seized by police for investigation. Its 41-year-old driver will undergo mandatory blood and alcohol testing.

Police could be seen recovering the boy’s damaged red bike from underneath the vehicle. Nean’s body is yet to be formally identified by investigators. 

A NSW Department of Education spokesman said the school had extended its ‘sincere condolences’ to the family and many friends of the boy.  

‘Counselling support is in place at the school and other local schools for students and staff who may have witnessed or been affected by the incident,’ he said.
