Is Australian Fashion Week out of style? Reality stars storm event once attended by Kim Kardashian

It has long been considered one of the most prestigious events in Sydney’s social calendar.

And while Australian Fashion Week has attracted a bevy of international celebrities in the past – including the Kardashians – these days you’re more likely to see local reality TV stars attending the runway shows.

This year’s schedule saw scantily clad MAFS and Bachelor contestants secure front-row seats – and their diva behaviour reportedly left a lot to be desired.

A Who’s Who of TV

A steady stream of reality stars turned out for this year’s Australian Fashion Week, including former MAFS brides Jules Robinson and Melissa Lucarelli.

Bachelor alumni Brittany Hockley and Kiki Morris have also made their presence felt, alongside Bachelorette star Timm Hanly and MAFS ‘villain’ Daniel Holmes.

Marley Biyendolo, Tilly Whitfeld and Sarah Jane Adams also enjoyed a mini Big Brother reunion when they sat together at a runway show on Thursday.

It’s a change of pace considering the event once attracted the Kardashians.

At the time, reports suggested the younger sister of model Gigi Hadid was paid up to AU$420,000 for the gig.

Bella said of walking the runway: ‘I want to literally wear everything from this collection. I literally wore an evening dress today with tennis shoes and it still looked cool.’

Male model Jordan Barrett also reportedly earned AU$100,000 for a 60-second walk at Justin Cassin’s Australian Fashion Week showcase in 2017.

Colourful figures

Former bikie associate Mark Judge raised eyebrows when he attended day three of Australian Fashion Week this year.

The 43-year-old donned an all-black ensemble as he posed with a group of scantily clad models and reality stars at Carriageworks.

Mark, who grew up near Penrith in western Sydney, started out as a doorman for a Rebels motorcycle gang clubhouse.

In 2011, the ‘ladies’ man’ was found bleeding to death on an upmarket Sydney street after he was violently stabbed nine times.

Mark was found collapsed on the footpath outside his apartment by two friends who were driving past after the attack.

Mark has since turned his life around and now makes a living as a designer watch seller with stores in Bondi and Melbourne.

This year’s Married At First Sight ‘villain’ Olivia Frazer ruffled feathers when she attended Fashion Week on Monday.

The 28-year-old took it upon herself to sit in the front row, despite having been assigned a second-row seat.

An onlooker told Daily Mail Australia Olivia was supposed to have been seated next to them in the second row at the Bec + Bridge show.

‘I noticed Olivia mingling with people in the front row and trying to work out where she was sitting,’ they said.

‘She looked over to the empty seats next to me, pointed and said, “Oh, 10 and 11, that’s us,” quite loudly.’

Despite this, Olivia continued to chat with the people in the front row, before picking up one of the goodie bags, placing it under a seat and sitting down.

According to the eyewitness, there were three rows at the runway show, but only the front row was given goodie bags.

A representative for Olivia said that while she did sit in the front row, ‘no one complained’ about her being there.

Causing scenes

Fame-seeking Married At First Sight star Nasser Sultan was put on notice over his rowdy behaviour at Fashion Week this year.

Security at Carriageworks, the Sydney venue where most of the runway shows were held, issued the 55-year-old with a stern warning to ‘stop being a pest’.

The warning was given after Nasser was pictured harassing former NRL WAG Phoebe Burgess in the front row at the Oroton showcase on Tuesday.

Nasser had briefly slipped into racing royalty Kate Waterhouse’s seat when she moved away and tugged on Phoebe’s designer coat to try to get her attention.

However, the ex-wife of retired NRL star Sam Burgess turned her back on Nasser as he repeatedly asked for a photo and tried to start a conversation.

An apologetic Nasser told Daily Mail Australia he was ‘really embarrassed’ about his behaviour around Phoebe, but denied gatecrashing the show or stealing anyone’s seat, as had been previously reported.

‘[The incident with security] really embarrassed me. I felt like a f**kwit… but I didn’t take anyone’s seat or sneak in,’ the former music promoter said.

‘I was invited to that show, saw Phoebe went over to say hello. Why can’t you say hello to people these days?’

‘Security were saying I stole Kate Waterhouse’s seat. I did not. I was there for a few seconds just taking a photo with Phoebe and then moved back to my seat.’

He added: ‘They said I was being a pest and that the designers didn’t want me at their shows… that’s not true. I have been invited to many of shows.

‘I have been going for years. I have no shame sitting in the back row. I am happy just to be there.’
