Is DHI really worth it vs the other hair transplant techniques?

Having thick lustrous hair is the dream of every individual. Hair loss at an early age is a nightmare, especially for men. Receding hairline and thinning hair cause many to lose their self-confidence and make them look older than their age.

However, hair transplant is a perfect solution for people suffering from hair loss. Hair transplant not only gives a long-lasting and permanent freedom from receding hairline and baldness but also makes you look younger. The major metro cities like Pune, Mumbai and Bangalore are inhabited by young professions and students who give a lot of importance to their physical appearance. They prefer professional help and that’s why a hair transplant is one of the most performed procedures.

A hair transplant is a very intricate procedure in which a lot depends on the surgeon’s expertise and skills. The hair grafts have to be implanted at a specific angle to give a natural look and great understanding and planning are needed to create a perfect hairline according to the patient’s features and age.

It is also important to choose the right hair transplant procedure for long-lasting results. Dr. Gajanan Jadhao, a renowned surgeon who performs hair transplant in Pune says, “No doubt there are several types of hair transplant procedures but you should always choose the one which is best suited to you according to your hair loss pattern, available donor area, hair type, and general health.”

People are told that the DHI technique is superior versus the traditional FUE or FUT hair transplant techniques. In this article, Dr. Gajanan Jadhao will shed some light on that and will make it clear when you should opt for a particular hair transplant technique.

What is a DHI hair transplant?

DHI or Direct Hair Implantation is an advanced procedure that gives natural results and leaves no visible marks. It is similar to FUE but does have some major differences.

During the DHI procedure, individual hair follicles are extracted from the donor area with a specific tool which is 1mm or less in diameter. Before implantation, no slits or holes are made in the recipient area and the hair follicles are directed grafted with the help of a special implanter pen called Choi.

The surgeon needs special training and certification for the DHI procedure as it requires added precision, accuracy, and effort.

Advantages of DHI hair transplantation:

More and more people are opting for a DHI hair transplant in Pune as it provides several benefits that are listed below.

  • DHI procedure can be performed at a much faster speed due to the fine-tipped implanter pen. So, a greater number of hair follicles can be grafted in a single session.
  • There is no need to make slits or holes in the recipient area for implantation, thereby it minimizes the risk and the healing period is shorter. Further, the existing hair follicles are not damaged.
  • As there are no scalpels or stitches involved, this procedure does not leave behind any visible scars.
  • The survival rate of the grafts is much higher as they are extracted and implanted simultaneously.
  • The use of the Choi implanter pen provides the surgeon more precision and they can control the direction, depth, and angle of the graft thereby giving a natural result.

Difference between DHI and FUE:

DHI is a modification of FUE but there is one major difference between the two. During FUE hair transplant, the surgeons have to make openings in the recipient area to implant the graft whereas in DHI there is no need to make any prior channels for implanting the hair follicles. It is directly implanted with the help of the Choi implanter pen.

Further, there is less bleeding and scaling in DHI as compared to FUE due to which you have lesser scars and faster recovery. With DHI hair transplant, you can resume your normal activities sooner.

Difference between DHI and FUT

FUT hair transplant leaves behind a linear scar at the back of the scalp from where the hair-bearing strip is removed. Whereas in DHI, a very fine extractor is used to remove the grafts so there are no visible traces of the scars.

It takes a shorter time to implant the grafts as extraction and implantation can be done at the same time and there is lesser trauma and blood loss in DHI.

However, the DHI hair transplant is more expensive as compared to FUT and FUE. But it does give higher success rates and natural results than the other two.
