Is James Comey planning a White House bid?

Former FBI director James Comey has posted a series of tweets since last Thursday, including a pair of photos placing him in Iowa.

‘Goodbye Iowa,’ Comey captioned one on Monday morning. ‘On the road home. Gotta get back to writing. Will try to tweet in useful ways.’

The rare social media weigh-in from Comey became the talk of political Twitter: Iowa is an early presidential caucus state, and the former lawman is wearing a pair of New Balance sneakers in the photo.

In the following hours more than 1,000 tweets chirped: ‘He’s running.’

In an earlier tweet, Comey is pictured standing in a cornfield with the caption: ‘Good to be back in Iowa.’

President Donald Trump fired Comey in May.

Six weeks earlier, Comey said during the annual Intelligence and National Security Alliance Leadership dinner that had secret Twitter and Instagram accounts.

He said the social media accounts were not public because he did not ‘want anybody looking at my photos.’

A Gizmodo reporter identified the account, then called ‘@projectexile7.’

Comey has since changed his handled to ‘@FormerBu.’

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents typically refer to their employer as ‘the Bu,’ short for ‘Bureau.’

Being outed drew more than 8,000 followers to the account within an hour.

‘Actually I’m not even mad. That’s amazing,’ Comey posted that day, along with a picture of Will Farrell’s character from the movie ‘Anchorman.’

Days later he switched his account to ‘private,’ cutting off more people from following him – until last week.

Benjamin Wittes, the publisher of the ‘Lawfare’ blog and a longtime Comey friend, acknowledged Monday morning that Comey is tweeting from the ‘FormerBu’ account.

‘Ok, in light of this latest tweet, I will confirm that @FormerBu is, in fact, James Comey himself,’ Wittes wrote, referring to Comey’s message of farewell to Iowa.

Wittes had dropped a teasing hint on Thursday, tweeting: ‘If @FormerBu is not, in fact, James Comey, this is the best gag ever for getting Twitter followers.’
