Matthew Bennett’s nerves got the better of him when things started heating up with his ‘wife’ Lauren Huntriss on Monday’s episode of Married At First Sight.

The morning after their Byron Bay wedding, a producer tentatively asked the couple if anything sexual happened the previous night.

But Matthew, 29, confirmed he did not not lose his virginity to makeup artist Lauren, 31, and hinted he may have suffered from stage fright.

When asked if ‘any funny business’ took place the night before, Matthew smiled and said: ‘Not in that sense, no.’ 

Lauren nodded in agreement, before Matthew explained that they failed to form a sexual connection after going to bed. 

‘There was no real affection or kissing or cuddling, I think I was just a little too nervous or anxious,’ he explained.

The Queensland-based videographer then admitted he ‘froze up’ after getting into bed with his bride.

Lauren said she felt nervous as well, adding that she wanted to give Matthew some space on their first night together.

‘I didn’t want to make him feel awkward and uncomfortable,’ the makeup artist explained.

‘To him [having sex] would be a huge deal. I respect that. I just want things to take their natural course,’ she added.

Despite their not-so-passionate night together, the couple nonetheless seemed excited ahead of their honeymoon.

It comes after Matthew explained to his wife on their wedding day that he had never been intimate with a woman before.

‘I’ve been on the fence about whether or not I should tell you because, you know, it’s been weighing on me a bit. It’s a big thing,’ Matthew said on Sunday’s episode.

‘I’m actually still a virgin,’ he added.

While Lauren’s initial reaction was to blurt out, ‘S**t!’, she later told Matthew that his sexual inexperience wasn’t a deal-breaker.
