There is a new contender for the most Australian insurance claim of all time.

Fiona Cosgrove was driving home to her farm one evening last month when a kangaroo jumped out of the scrub on Tomkins Road, 350 kilometres north of Perth.

The massive marsupial smashed into the side of Ms Cosgrove’s car, doing significant damage.

When filling out her insurance claim the Mingenew woman drew a hilarious sketch of the accident scene, WA Today reported.

The drawing shows a sketch of a kangaroo in front of the vehicle symbol on a road lined by bush on both sides.

In reply to the question ‘Who do you think was to blame, and why?’ Ms Cosgrove wrote: ‘Kangaroo for jumping out in front from the scrub.’

Ms Cosgrove sent the claim off to Elder’s Insurance, saying it is vital they understand how large the kangaroo was.

‘As you can see from my drawings, which I must add was drawn to scale, he was a huge beast,’ she said.

The vehicle involved will need substantial repairs, with damage done to a fog light, a wheel arch and the passenger-side front door.

Despite the unexpected collision Ms Cosgrove and her family got home safely.

‘Luckily I’m an extremely experienced bush rally driver and I was able to complete the rest of the journey without incident, allowing my three children to carry on sleeping and my husband to continue to tell me how to drive,’ she said.
