Isle of Wight revellers watch the England World Cup game in the heat

Beachgoers are making the most of the 77F (25C) heat as England celebrate their World Cup win against Panama and Britain basks in glorious sunshine ahead of the 90F (32C) heatwave next week.

After a balmy weekend, the heat is expected to soar to 80F (27C) by Tuesday before rising into the high 80s and 90s on Wednesday – as hot as popular holiday destinations such as Marbella and even inching above Tahiti.

Average temperatures for this time of year usually hover around 70F (20C) in London and 64F (18C) in Manchester.

Britons took advantage of the tanning weather to flock outdoors today, heading to beaches and football fans soaking up the sun in front of big screens to watch England take on Panama at the Isle of Wight Festival.

MET forecaster Rachel West said: ‘This week, there will be lots of dry, fine warm weather around. For the far north of the UK, at times it will be cloudy with the odd outbreak of rain. The warm will extend a good way north.’

Ms West added that Monday will have highs of 82F (28C), possibly even 84F (29C), and it will continue to get  warmer as the week goes on.

From Tuesday until Thursday, temperatures could hit anywhere from to 90F, with Wednesday expected to be the warmest day of the week.

Ms West said the focus of the heat will be in the west, due to an eastern breeze that will cool down that part of the country.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: ‘Computer models show 95F isn’t out of the question in England’s south from midweek as temperatures continue to rise amid a Spanish plume of warm air.’

Forecasters say next Wednesday could be the hottest day of 2018, after a weekend of wall-to-wall sunshine around the UK. The blistering 30C peak will match highs in sunny holiday hot spots in southern Spain.

One of the most popular beaches in the country was Brighton Beach, where the pebbles did not put off sunbathers.

Dozens of boozy Brits were already worse for wear by breakfast time by the party town’s world famous pier.

Three lions fans carrying St George’s fans were strewn across the beach as music blared from The Luna Beach Cinema where the match will be shown. Beachgoers were seen zip wiring above the seashore.

Sunbather Anthony Grist, 41, headed down to the pebbled coastline at 8am and said it was one of the best places in the country.

Soaking the sun with a can of Strongbow in hand as the Met Office predicted dry and sunny weather, the crane banksman from Brighton, East Sussex, said: ‘I’ve come for the sunshine and to lay on the beach.

‘I got down here at eight this morning, just enjoying the sun getting my tan.’

Sun loving football fans flocked to the iconic pebbled beaches of Brighton as temperatures were predicted to rise to 25C.
