Israel Folau shuts down his Twitter and Instagram accounts on eve of Rugby Australia legal fight

Israel Folau’s Instagram and Twitter accounts are shut down on the eve of his $10million legal battle with Rugby Australia

  • Israel Folau, 30, has shut down his Twitter and Instagram social media accounts
  • They were deleted on the eve of his Federal Circuit Court hearing in Melbourne
  • He was sacked in May over posts calling on homosexuals to repent for their sins

Sacked Wallabies star Israel Folau has shut down his Twitter and Instagram accounts on the eve of his $10million legal battle with Rugby Australia.

The 30-year-old fundamentalist Pentecostal Christian was fired in May for over a tweet and an Instagram post calling on ‘drunks, homosexuals, fornicators, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters’ to repent for their sins to avoid going to Hell.

As he prepares to fight Rugby Australia in the Federal Circuit Court this week, Folau has deleted both his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

A directions hearing is listed for Tuesday in Melbourne after June conciliation talks with Rugby Australia failed in the Fair Work Commission.

Folau is seeking $10million in damages from Rugby Australia after its chief executive Raelene Castle terminated his employment for his May social media posts which paraphrases a verse from Corinthians in the New Testament.

The Australian Christian Lobby raised $2million in just two days two months ago to back Folau’s fight, on religious freedom grounds.

They argued his sacking from his $4million-a-year contract constituted religious discrimination.

Rugby Australia sacked Folau in May from this $4million, four-year contract after he tweeted that 'drunks, homosexuals, fornicators, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters' needed to repent for their sins or they would go to Hell
