It just feels the same! Arsenal hero Tony Adams slams displays under new boss Unai Emery as ‘Arsene Wenger performances’

  • Unai Emery is yet to win a Premier League match as manager of Arsenal
  • The Gunners have so far tasted defeat against Manchester City and Chelsea
  • Tony Adams believes Emery has seemed too similar to Arsene Wenger

Arsenal legend Tony Adams has slammed the calibre of performances he has seen from the team in the early stages of Unai Emery’s tenure as manager.

The former Gunners defender believes the signs suggest that Emery’s style is no different to that of his predecessor, Arsene Wenger.

Despite playing under Wenger for the majority of his career, Adams feels a change in direction from the Frenchman’s philosophy is essential for Arsenal to move forward.

Speaking to The Sun, Adams said: ‘After Arsene, I was so excited with the prospect of a real change — it was a great chance to do things differently but against City it was an Arsene Wenger performance — only more so.

‘I felt so sad about that. Everyone knows what Arsenal have been missing — it’s that steel, that resilience.

‘Whether Emery can coach it or not I don’t know yet, it is early days. But then away to Chelsea they were all over the place again — you’re not watching them thinking “there’s a change here”.

‘It’s the same goalkeeper, the same style of play — it just feels the same, there’s no one rocking the boat.’

Emery’s Arsenal lost 2-0 to Manchester City on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

They followed that up with a 3-2 defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Emery’s next opportunity to get three points on the board and win over Adams comes on Saturday, when Arsenal host West Ham at the Emirates Stadium.
