  • Iconic Italian club AC Milan find themselves in the throes of a civil war outbreak
  • Chief executive Ivan Gazidis, formerly of Arsenal, is set to fire Paolo Maldini
  • Maldini was recently slammed by the man he replaced, Massimiliano Mirabelli
  • Mirabelli boldly questioned Maldini’s credentials for the job he is undertaking

Civil war appears to be breaking out in the ranks of iconic Italian side AC Milan, with one of the club’s most decorated legends Paolo Maldini set to get the sack.

The club are currently wallowing in seventh place in the league and face a huge mountain to climb if they are to achieve Champions League football.

Amid the decline of the once unrivaled side, things appear to be falling apart at the seams. Chief executive Ivan Gazidis, formerly of Arsenal, is poised to pull the trigger on sporting director Maldini, in light of a former member of the Milan hierarchy making scathing remarks.

Gazidis has decided to fire Maldini after former sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli, who was replaced by the former Milan No.3, criticized the club legend in the most offensive of ways.

‘Maldini should be asked what he did to become a manager. It is as if a person became a doctor without having attended first grade,’ remarked Mirabelli, not holding back.

‘Maldini is as if he had become a doctor in one of the most important hospitals in the world without having attended the right schools.’

Maldini immediately replied to Mirabelli, aware that he had to leave Milan with Gazidis set to revolutionize the top of the waning club: ‘Any negative comment by Mirabelli I consider it a great compliment. Hearing him speak I would have avoided references to any level of school education,’ Maldini told the Italian media.

Maldini had carefully crafted his response to the criticisms received while knowing that his adventure in Milan is over, and an uneasy future with the club he once held so dear now lies in wait.

The contrast between Gazidis and Maldini was born a few months ago when the former captain of Milan has expressed his doubts about the possible arrival of Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick is highly rated by Gazidis for his skills in man-management and bringing the best out of players.

The German coach now finds himself as head of sports and development at Red Bull GmbH.
