Meanwhile, the White House is preparing to deal with the US’s second natural disaster in two weeks.

President Donald Trump warned Thursday that Hurricane Irma could be bigger and more powerful than the storm that swept over Texas and Louisiana – but said state and federal officials are prepared.

‘We think we’re as well-prepared as you can possibly be,’ Trump said. ‘Florida is as well-prepared as you can be for something like this,’ he added moments later.

Trump said the storm could turn and head east but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

‘We are with the people of Florida,’ he declared.

The president is preparing to spend the weekend at Camp David in Maryland with his Cabinet secretaries and their wives.

Trump also spent the weekend there where Hurricane Harvey descended on Texas, leaving behind a trail of damage.

Three hurricanes are brewing currently in the Atlantic. Irma is expected to devastate areas of Florida before it moves up into Georgia with possible damage in Alabama, Tennessee and the Carolinas.
