I’ve found a perfect dress for a wedding – but people say it looks like lingerie

I’ve found a dress I love for a semi-formal spring wedding – but people say it looks too much like lingerie

A woman left social media torn over whether a fitted baby-pink dress was more appropriate for a church pew or the bedroom.

The poster, who is understood to be from the US, invited feedback on a shimmering, flowy frock which she hopes to wear to a ‘semi casual/formal’ wedding in the spring.

The slip-on piece from retailer Altard State, which she shared a picture of in a Reddit post, promises a ‘comfortable and breathable fit’ and is priced at $50.99.

But few appeared to be enthusiastic about the gown, with some claiming it looked like ‘lingerie’, while others felt it was ‘too casual’.

‘I don’t know what semi casual/formal means, but this dress seems really short for a wedding,’ one advised.

‘A good rule of thumb is if you can’t bend over without showing anything, it’s too short for a wedding.’

Others also admitted the length was a little sparse for their taste.

One person suggested to go for something less dressed down.

‘It’s better to be a little overdressed than a little underdressed,’ they warned.

‘And this seems too casual.

‘I’d maybe try to get a little more clarity on the dress code as well cause casual and formal don’t really mix.

‘If anything I’d go for cocktail attire?’

‘Given the combination of length and fabric this seems more like nightwear,’ a third added.

One helpful style-savant had even searched the retailer to offer up an alternative design option.

The wedding-guest-to-be later also clarified that the bride and groom are ‘very casual themselves’.

‘I’m 99% sure groom is wearing jeans at the ceremony,’ she added.

‘They want folks to like ‘nice’ but if they can’t swing super formal they don’t mind.’

It comes after another woman divided opinion with a sage green embroidered dress, which commenters felt was too bridal for a wedding.

Lauren Candy, from the UK, who is known on the platform as @laurencandy3, shared a short video of the frock with her more than 260,000 followers.

Describing the pale sage creation as a ‘dream’ in a caption for the clip, in the video itself, she called it ‘quite possibly the most beautiful wedding guest dress ever’.

The garment appears to be from ASOS’ Bridesmaid collection, and called the cami embellished midi dress with embroidery in sage green.

Boasting a midi-length tiered skirt and a square neckline, as well as dainty floral embroidery, the Summery outfit costs £110.

However, while the TikTokker was very taken by the gown, some people in the comments section of her video were less impressed.

Some argued that the frock was a ‘terrible choice’ for a wedding because it looked too white.
