Spain and Germany played out a tense 1-1 draw on a crucial night of World Cup action that leaves Group E on a knife edge.

Spain’s Alvaro Morata managed to score a goal for the team against keeper Kevin, as the two Group E teams battled it out.

Alvaro looked to have all but fired Spain into the last-16 after coming off the bench in the second half, only for Germany to respond with their own late sub as Niclas Fullkrug grabbed what could be a crucial late equaliser.

From here, though, the challenge for both teams should be straightforward. If Spain beat Japan, if Germany beat Costa Rica, both progress.

Germany will come second but given the mess Belgium have made of Group F, that might not be a bad thing.

Spain could win the group and play Belgium, Germany as runners-up might meet Morocco or Croatia. Lucke’s got lucky indeed.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicked off this week, 20 November, and will run until 18 December at Qatar’s Al Bayt Stadium.

It comes four years following the last FIFA World Cup, which was held in Russia and saw France take the win
