Jack Johnson’s Sydney fans are fuming after being told they won’t be refunded after his concert on Monday was cancelled mid performance due to extreme weather.

The soft rock singer, 47, was fifty minutes into his set when a freak lightning storm occurred and after consulting with authorities Johnson was told to cut things short.

‘This is really hard for me to say but the police are shutting us down,’ he told his thousands of fans at the Opera House Forecourt.

Meanwhile, event organisers decided his time on stage counted as a complete performance so fans won’t receive a refund.

However, disappointed ticketholders are eligible to attend an hour long soundcheck on Wednesday evening as compensation.

The Upside Down hitmaker shared footage of the storm interrupting his concert to Instagram and apologised for the disruption.

Fortunately, many of his 938,000 followers were understanding and said that safety comes first.

Johnson recently revealed on 60 Minutes that many of his greatest hits are inspired by his wife of 20 years, Kim.

Allowing journalist Peter Stefanovic to follow him around his Oahu hometown for a day, he said many of his greatest love songs were written after he forgot an important anniversary.

‘The love songs are all for my wife,’ he said.

‘If I wake up and I’ve forgotten it’s our anniversary, I gotta write a song quick.

‘That’s my version of a card,’ he continued with Peter replying he was putting the rest of us all to shame.

But although smooth as silk on the guitar and ukulele, Jack said his skills didn’t initially help him win over his college sweetheart wife.

‘I tried to impress her with knowing the guitar or something, but I don’t think that’s what worked,’ dished Jack. ‘I think it was my persistence.’
