Jack Wilshere considering leaving Arsenal in January

Jack Wilshere is contemplating a move away from Arsenal in January so that he can focus on getting back into the England set-up ahead of the 2018 World Cup. 

Wilshere, who has recovered from a fractured leg suffered while playing for Bournemouth in April, is eager for more match time at club level to enhance his chances of playing for England again.

The Arsenal midfielder has not played for England since the shock defeat by Iceland in the last-16 at the 2016 Euros and according to The Times, Wilshere is desperate to be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup.

Wilshere, whose Arsenal contract runs out at the end of the season, has impressed for the Gunners since recovering from his latest setback, starring most recently in the club’s 4-2 victory over BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

However, the 25-year-old has yet to feature in the Premier League for Arsenal this season with Arsene Wenger determined not to rush him back.

And the midfielder is in fact worried about whether he will ever get the opportunity to play for the north London outfit on a regular basis again. 

Wilshere’s concerns come as Sportsmail recently reported that Wilshere was being lined up for a surprise World Cup call, with Southgate looking to solve England’s lack of midfield creativity.

England’s established axis of Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier — two holding midfielders — has been criticised for lacking invention.

When asked directly whether Wilshere has an international future, Southgate said: ‘We’re in a position where there’s no way we would dismiss any creative player. But people have to be playing and have to be playing at a good level.’ 

Wilshere will be hoping to revive his England career by getting some much-needed game time in the Premier League when Arsenal face Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
