Jacqui Lambie has revealed she was forced to live off Vegemite on toast after she was kicked out of Parliament.

Ms Lambie was recently re-elected to the senate at the Federal Election last weekend, marking a comeback after she was sensationally dumped over dual citizenship in 2017.

The Tasmanian senator-elect revealed the temporary hiatus had plunged her into dire financial straits, as she was forced to give up her $200,000 salary.

Ms Lambie had only $20,000 to live off and as little as $150 to spend each week. 

She told The New Daily her situation became so bad she was forced to live off Vegemite on toast.

The 48-year-old said she also relied on friends who cut their own meat and grew their own vegetables to make her meals.

Even though she had set aside $1,000 a month in home repayments, she eventually fell two months behind on her payments. 

The Tasmanian senator had first bought her property when she was still in Parliament and was able to pay off the costs on her generous salary. 

Though her career came to a turbulent end after it was revealed Ms Lambie’s was a dual citizen.

Her father had been born in Scotland and had passed her British citizenship by descent.

With not even money to spare for the house, that left her little for the smaller luxuries in life. 

‘I just had to do it. No new clothes. No make up. I just did it,’ she said.
